Riize’s “Fame” Sets a New Precedent

Riize’s single album, [Fame], is a testament to their versatility as performers. One may argue that Riize doesn’t have a set concept, and this unquestionably proves this sentiment.

Starting strong with the track, “Something’s In the Water,” the group showcases their floating vocals over a soft R&B instrumental. The lyrics tell a chilling story of someone who seems to blame themself for a failed relationship, and the dark thoughts that come with this realization. It’s refreshing to see Riize try out a more emotional concept, and hopefully, they will be able to utilize it more in the future.

Riize takes a complete 180° turn with a high-energy title track, “Fame.” Similar to the last, this song has a more emotional and raw message. They sing of not caring for the fame they have accumulated over their years of work, and instead want to care for the person they love. This message is expertly executed through a punchy chorus and dynamic verses. Sohee’s higher backing vocals support the lower rap verses, creating an impactful juxtaposition that leaves a lasting impression on the listener. “Fame” is uniquely tailored to Riize’s strengths.

Finishing off the project, Riize tackles a pop-rock track titled “Sticky Like.” The members sing of giving up everything for their love, who is “sticky like honey.” They express a deep appreciation and yearning for the person they love, coinciding with the more emotional themes of the previous two songs. With a more upbeat and almost cute melody, the lyrics create a rich contrast within the song.

Riize continues to stun as they take on more and more challenging concepts. Be sure to tune into more music as they prepare for longer projects.
