Nearly three months after the release of underscores’ “Do It,” a remix has just dropped - this time featuring soloist Yves. This might possibly be my favorite song released this year… and the year just started! Read on for a passionate review of this rising hit.

Meet underscores, also known as April Harper Grey. underscores is an American singer-songwriter and producer who has been making waves in the music world for years. With several studio albums and a steady stream of singles, remixes, and EPs, she’s built a bold, ever-evolving discography. Collaborating with artists like Jane Remover, Oklou, and Danny Brown, her sound pulls heavily from early-2000s electronic music while maintaining a distinctly global edge. Her live appearances are just as impressive, with performances at major festivals including Coachella, Governor’s Ball, and Lollapalooza, along with tours both as a headliner and as support for artists such as Porter Robinson and 100 gecs.

While every era of underscores’ career feels monumental in its own way, she’s recently hit a new peak - releasing a string of singles that somehow keep getting more ambitious. “Do It” is an addictive, high-energy track that makes it impossible not to move, and she leaned fully into that momentum. Just days after its release, underscores dropped a choreographed performance video featuring herself and a team of backup dancers, hitting every beat with precision, confidence, and undeniable flair.

At its core, “Do It” is an upbeat dance track that encourages listeners to stop overthinking and let go. It’s about releasing inhibition and fully committing to the moment - just “doing it.” Picture a dance floor scene in a movie, where the main character gets pulled into the center, hesitates for a second, then gives in to the music and the joy of movement.

As if the track couldn’t get any better, underscores teamed up with Yves for a remix of “Do It”, crossing genres and thrilling fans from both worlds. Yves, a South Korean soloist best known as a key member of K-pop girl group LOONA, brings a fresh energy to the song. The collaboration feels especially fitting: underscores has long been open about her love for K-pop. She previously ran a YouTube channel under the name 2ndgenbias, where she analyzed K-pop through a producer’s lens, and her own music clearly reflects the influence of K-pop beat drops, rhythms, and flows.

The release of “Do It” (Yves Remix) is accompanied by a self-directed music video featuring both artists, shot across two different continents. underscores directed the video, filming her portion in the U.S. with cinematography by Noah Sellers. Yves’ scenes were shot in Korea alongside production company GUBO, using a nearly identical studio and lighting setup. The two halves come together seamlessly, creating a stunning popstar music video.

I’m incredibly excited to see what underscores does next. She’s clearly in her element right now, and her passion shines through in every release. Watching her collaborate with other artists - highlighting both their strengths while creating something entirely new - is genuinely so inspiring.
